In a shorter, radar-points-only edition, Austin Hankwitz and Robert Croak run through six headlines, from Big Tech legal fights to the pressure inflation is putting on consumers and homeowners.

Big Tech: lawsuits and acquisitions

OpenAI alleges that a former employee who returned to Apple took more than 100 confidential files on an unreleased OpenAI device and shared its product plans with Apple leadership. Apple says it found no evidence to support the claims. Separately, Amazon is reportedly in talks to buy AI startup Decart for $7 billion, a move the hosts see as part of Amazon’s push to reduce its dependence on Nvidia.

Inflation heats up

September CPI rose 3.7% year-over-year, above expectations, with gasoline up sharply on the back of the Iran conflict. With average hourly earnings up 3%, real wages are falling. Consumers now expect higher inflation ahead, and prediction markets cited by the hosts show rising odds of a Fed rate hike by year-end.

Netflix, Sweetgreen and ARM resets

Netflix is cutting around 6% of its global workforce, nearly 1,000 roles, while maintaining its full-year forecast. Sweetgreen slashed its outlook after a drop in same-store sales, citing a perception problem on price, and is betting on sub-$15 wraps to win back customers. Finally, around 150,000 homeowners with adjustable-rate mortgages face their first rate reset this year, with payments rising by hundreds of dollars a month or more.
