TOAK aims to achieve steady growth with minimal price fluctuations by employing a conservative options strategy known as defined risk options. These options limit potential losses to the premium paid for entering the position and always seeks to pair a long call with an offsetting long put or a long call spread with a long put spread.
The fund invests in long calls, long puts, and vertical debit spreads, carefully combining these options to mitigate risk and reduce volatility. Unlike some ETFs that use leverage or take on riskier positions with unhedged options, TOAK focuses on safer, short-term options strategies (with durations up to one year) to achieve steady growth with minimal volatility.
The maximum loss is capped at the cost of the options, and any gains are reinvested to enhance returns. To maintain flexibility and adapt to changing market conditions, the fund may also hold cash and actively manages its portfolio. TOAK carries an expense ratio of 0.45%, which has been waived by the Advisor to 0.25%.
TOAK offers a compelling alternative to traditional cash management options like money markets, treasury bills, and short-duration bond funds. By strategically utilizing defined risk options, the ETF aims to deliver returns that exceed those of 1-3 month treasury bills (before fees) while utilizing a tax-efficient ETF structure. This makes TOAK a potentially attractive choice for investors seeking to optimize their cash allocations while preserving a low-risk profile.
"We are thrilled to provide our clients with an easy-to-access investment vehicle that seeks to democratize access to an investment strategy already used by sophisticated institutional investors with the tax efficiency of an ETF.” said Zach Wainwright, Founder, CEO and Portfolio Manager.
