Healthcare Funds on the Rise
Health Care sector sees a modest 2023 finish after a decline in 2022, sparking renewed interest with substantial inflows this week.
After experiencing a 3.55% decline in 2022, the Health Care sector ended the year virtually flat (+0.30%), underperforming the S&P 500 benchmark index by nearly 24%.
Yet in contrast, this past week was characterized by considerable inflows of $806 million into health care funds suggesting a potential revival of interest in an industry that was neglected by investors in 2023.
Health care ETFs gained 1.32% over the week, with the S&P Health Care sector up 2.07% - in comparison to the broader S&P 500 which was down 1.52%.
Of note, the Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLV) recorded a weekly performance of 2.09% and attracted $722 million in inflows.
