SMLL primarily invests in equity securities of U.S. small-cap companies, specifically those within the market capitalization range of the Russell 2000 Index. It employs an active, bottom-up management approach to select 30-80 companies that demonstrate strong competitive advantages, sustainable business models, and consistent free cash flow generation.
The investment strategy focuses on identifying companies with higher returns on invested capital and effective management teams with a track record of successful capital allocation. The manager seeks stocks trading at a discount to their intrinsic value, with an emphasis on long-term growth potential and superior risk-adjusted returns. The Fund may invest a significant portion of its assets in specific issuers, reflecting its non-diversified nature.
Leveraging the expertise of Byron Place Capital Management's investment team, Harbor's SMLL ETF offers investors a unique opportunity to capitalize on the growth potential of small-cap companies. By focusing on businesses with sustainable competitive advantages, SMLL aims to deliver superior risk-adjusted returns over the long term.
“Small caps are top of mind for Harbor as we believe they have the potential to offer attractive returns over the coming cycle,” said Kristof Gleich, President & CIO at Harbor Capital Advisors, “Glenn Gawronski, sits squarely in the bullseye of what we’re trying to achieve at Harbor. He is a proven, committed, skilled active manager who has decided to break away and create his own boutique, honing decades of experience and knowledge he has accumulated at a larger firm. An active approach and commitment to finding companies he believes have a sustainable competitive advantage can serve as a compelling allocation for advisors who seek to capture some of the potential returns available to small cap investors.”

Harbor Capital Advisors is an asset manager with an AUM of $60.0 billion as of June 30, 2024 and is known for prudently curating a suite of active ETFs, mutual funds, and collective investment trusts from boutique managers. Advisors looking for distinct and differentiated investment options for their clients’ portfolios often connect with our obsession to find what we believe are the best and most bold solutions that have the potential to produce compelling risk-adjusted returns.
