How These ETFs Work

Each ETF is designed to offer actively managed exposure to key segments of the market that can enhance traditional portfolios:

  • Cohen & Steers Real Estate Active ETF (CSRE): Focuses on U.S. REITs and select international real estate securities, aiming for total return and diversification within a portfolio. It invests in Cohen & Steers’ highest conviction real estate ideas and is managed by Jason Yablon, Mathew Kirschner, and Ji Zhang.
  • Cohen & Steers Preferred and Income Opportunities Active ETF (CSPF): Designed to provide tax-efficient income and portfolio diversification, CSPF invests in investment-grade institutional preferred securities to offer high-quality, steady returns. It is led by Elaine Zaharis-Nikas, Jerry Dorost, and Robert Kastoff.
  • Cohen & Steers Natural Resources Active ETF (CSNR): Aims to deliver total return and inflation protection by investing in companies involved in energy, agriculture, metals, and mining. This ETF is managed by Tyler Rosenlicht, Head of Natural Resource Equities.

Why These ETFs Could Stand Out in Today’s Market

In today's challenging macroeconomic environment, marked by rising inflation, slowing growth, and heightened market volatility, real assets and alternative income strategies are crucial for building resilient portfolios.

Cohen & Steers' new ETFs offer three key advantages:

  • Enhanced Diversification: Exposure to real estate, preferred securities, and natural resources provides unique risk-return characteristics, distinct from traditional stocks and bonds.
  • Inflation Protection and Income: These asset classes have historically outperformed during inflationary periods while offering the potential for tax-efficient income.
  • Active Management Expertise: Unlike passive ETFs, these funds leverage Cohen & Steers' experienced investment team, employing a dynamic allocation strategy to capitalize on high-conviction opportunities.

Joseph Harvey, CEO of Cohen & Steers, emphasized the strategic importance of these launches:

“The launch of our active ETF strategies reinforces our commitment to providing investors with vehicles that help them achieve their objectives and unlock the full potential of their portfolios. We see significant tailwinds for real assets and preferred securities and believe that an allocation to these asset classes can lead to superior investment outcomes compared to traditional 60/40 stock-bond portfolios.”

Daniel Noonan, Head of the Wealth Management Consulting Group, added:

“Active ETFs have seen tremendous market growth and have become the preferred vehicle for many wealth managers and their clients. Launching active ETFs represents a significant opportunity for Cohen & Steers to expand access to our time-tested strategies in real assets and alternative income.”
